On September 7th at 11:09 AM PDT the Sun and Moon oppose each other; Sun at 15 degrees Virgo 23 minutes, and the Full Moon at 15 degrees Pisces 23 minutes. On this occasion we have a Total Lunar Eclipse! For those of you that know about the Nodes of the Moon, this lunation cycle conjoins the North Node, making this an even more potent moment in time. We are being encouraged to release our emotional baggage, awaken our spiritual higher nature, and let go of old patterns that no longer serve us.

Pisces rules the last house of the zodiac, and it indicates “endings.” It shows us all once we have journeyed through all of the houses, planetary wise, we come to the end of the road of old beliefs, behaviors, and judgements. This happens through highs and lows emotionally, having endured the lessons that bring us to our knees and change us for the better. Some who are stuck in confusion and too willful to let go will suffer the throws of this sign, and possibly take the low road rather than the high one.

Pisces is a Mutable Water Sign; mutable as it is the last month of the Winter season, showing signs of Winter turning into Spring. Mutable signs are adaptable and flexible. The Water element instills a deep emotional nature and a sensitivity that heightens intuition and empathy. With every Full Moon we look back to when the Moon was New to see whether we have actualized our hopes, wishes and goals set on the New Moon. February 27th of this year the Moon was New in Pisces, and it brought us a magical and intuitive energy focused on spiritual renewal, deep healing, surrendering control, and setting intentions for dreams and creative endeavors. Now in hindsight, how have you done? The emotional burdens we carry complicate our goals, so now we can have closure on old habits that led us astray. Clarity and focus on our inner world, our creativity and spiritual ideals can manifest into our reality.

The planet Mercury at 10 degrees Virgo, the messenger, is conjunct the Sun and opposite the Moon. When Mercury is in this sign we are very analytical, driven to perfection in our actions. You may tend to see things from your perspective only and to be rather subjective. You will also enjoy talking and expressing your views but you don't always listen as well. But with the opposition to the Moon you are not interested in subjects that are wholly abstract or technical. There must be a personal, human element to evoke your interest. Your interest is in people and their inner motivations, feelings, personal lives, and experiences. This is a good time to “walk in another’s shoes”, metaphorically, in order to relate powerfully and with empathy at the same time.

The Sun is sextile Jupiter at 19 degrees Cancer, and the Moon is trined. Jupiter brings blessings, growth, wisdom and expansion, and in the sign of Cancer this placement advances emotional abundance, strengthens connections to family and home, and encourages growth from within, emphasizing empathy, community care, and redefining belonging. With this axis of Virgo/Pisces relating to our health, our work and service, Jupiter brings us an opportunity to heal emotional wounds, support loved ones, and find fulfillment in being authentically ourselves.

We are given the choice to balance our daily routines, our physical health and need for organization with a strong vision, our spiritual health and connection with the Infinite. The North Node indicates this is our collective mission at this time, and we will see progress over the next two years in this part of our lives. Those of us that live in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia will be fortunate enough to see this Full Lunar Eclipse, but rest assured whether you can witness it or not it has its full effect on the whole world. Allow your higher self to guide you now, and clear out the cobwebs of your mind that hinder your growth. The planets and luminaries support our growth now, so join with the energies to become your best self.

On August 22nd at 11:06 PM PDT the Sun and Moon align at 0 degrees Virgo 23 minutes. And guess what; we have a second New Moon in Virgo on September 21st! This is rare, and very special, as this Mutable Earth sign is a blessing.

Virgo is Mutable, meaning it is the third month of a season with qualities of both the season it is in as well as the one to come. We go from the heat of summer to the cooler nights of fall. Likewise, Virgo is

the symbol of the harvest, reaping the rewards of the summer season, and preparing them for the cooler days ahead. Their energy includes the warmth of summer, and the cool aloofness of fall. It is flexible, adaptable, as it is the bridge to Autumn. It is an Earth sign, grounded and willing to be of service when called upon.

The planet Mercury rules Virgo, bringing a mental quality to this earth sign. Virgoan people are very analytical, seeing the details of any given situation. But at times they miss the emotion altogether and dwell in their critical thinking, both about themselves and others. Some astrologers believe another planet will be discovered, that is the true ruling planet for Virgo, as Mercury already rules Gemini. That remains to be seen at the time of this writing.

So on this occasion, the Sun and Moon are involved in a rare aspect called a “Yod” or the “Finger of God.” This pattern in astrology appears when two or more planets or luminaries sextile each other, and a third one inconjuncts or quincunxes them. Saturn at 0 degrees Aries and Neptune at 1 degree Aries are sextile Pluto at 1 degree Aquarius. The Sun and Moon are inconjunct these planets. OK, enough with the technical, what does it mean? When a Yod appears in a chart it signifies deep, fated tests that push us toward spiritual growth and transformation. The planets involved in the Yod represent areas of life that feel difficult to accommodate, but the apex planet (where the quincunxes meet) holds the key to resolving this tension.

In this Yod, the Finger of God points to the Sun and Moon in Virgo. They act like a compass, showing the direction to take to remedy and adjust to a different way. The quincunx aspect represents a need for adjustment, and in this case it asks us to be mindful and available to be of service. While Saturn, Neptune and Pluto are on a journey of self discovery, the Sun and Moon remind us we are but a grain of sand in the world's seas. But our spark is shared by humanity, and this humble sign encourages us to open our hearts, take action where needed, and serve our fellow humans. We all have something to share, be it material, intellectual, or spiritual and now is that time. Virgo energy seeks perfection, always improving what can be improved upon.

The Sun and Moon are squared by Uranus at 1 degree Gemini. The Sun’s square highlights an impulsive, restless, and unstable energy, potentially full of sudden changes. Under this influence we crave independence, excitement, freedom and adventure, challenging the guidance of the Yod. The square to the Moon brings us the desire for emotional freedom, possibly rocking the boat in our domestic lives.

Let’s look at this objectively. If we are being led to create peace through service, while being challenged by and influenced by differing energies, we must take the high road. We are not alone here, each of us needs help at times, and what goes around comes around. Whenever given the chance to do a small act of service, whether it be helping an elder across the street, to smiling at someone who needs a lift, we are all here together to hold each other up while standing tall.

We will culminate this energy with the second New Moon in Virgo on September 21st. Be kind to yourself and others now, and feel the rewards of loving your neighbor.

On August 9th at 12:55 AM PDT the Sun and Moon oppose each other at 17 degrees; the Sun in Leo and the Moon in Aquarius. This is the moment when we see if the goals, hopes and dreams we set when the Moon was New in Aquarius have come to fruition. This year the New Moon in Aquarius occurred on January 29th. When the Sun and Moon were in Aquarius we were inspired to set intentions related to personal independence, freedom, and transformation. Also to look at the groups we belong to in order to improve ourselves along with others. The ruling planet here is Uranus; the mover and shaker of the zodiac. Where we feel limited our cage will be rattled until we move in a better direction.

Now with the Sun in Leo opposing the Moon, the emotional energies are heightened, creating a need to review our balance or imbalance relating to the Leo/Aquarius axis. This axis in astrology represents a conflict between individuality and the collective, self-expression and community. Leo's focus is on personal passion, creativity, and self-expression, and Aquarius's emphasis is on the greater good, intellectual pursuits, and universal vision. We are here to strike a balance as an individual that compliments the teams we belong to.

These two signs are Fixed; Leo/Fire and Aquarius/Air. We can fan the flames to envision a greater future if we don’t get stuck, unwilling to act on insights and visions. Fixed signs can be stubborn and determined to persist in one direction rather than have flexibility. Ego and pride play a hand in this problem, so keep an open mind and stay humble;)

On this occasion the Sun and Moon have no aspects, giving us the green light to act on these influences with clarity. I’m going to review the other planets aspecting each other. We have a Grand Air Trine between Mars in Libra, Uranus in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius. This is a beneficial aspect, as it endows us with profound imagination, thoughts, communications, and a curious disposition. Mars in Libra focuses energy on respect, balance, and harmony in actions and desires. Uranus in Gemini inspires progressive and creative thinking. And Pluto in Aquarius teaches us united action is a very high priority.

But let me add another planet here that plays into the Grand Trine. It’s called the “kite pattern”; when a planet opposes one of the planets involved in the Grand Trine, creating the image of the tail of a kite. Here we have two planets at 1 degree Aries; Saturn and Neptune, opposing Mars at 1 degree Libra. It is called the peak planet, or planets here, bringing tension to this otherwise passive gift. They challenge us by focusing our attention on an individual perception rather than embracing more than ourselves. Fear gets in the way if we allude to ourselves that including others in our plans can slow us down, get in the way…The tension is meant to help us focus on our direction and purpose and make it an active mission. The other three planets in the Trine must work towards the development of these peak planets. This is accomplished when we surrender to humanitarian actions and feel the warmth and joy we receive through our own selfless actions.

A wonderful way to celebrate this Full Moon is to sit out under the stars by a fire, dreaming while awake of all you are grateful for and what you can do to be the best self you can be. Know you are loved and encouraged to feel whole, relevant, and in service to humanity while on your sojourn on Earth:)
