On May 12th at 9:56 AM PDT the Sun and Moon oppose each other at 22 degrees 13 minutes. The Sun in the sign of Taurus and the Moon in Scorpio. Every year we celebrate this Moon as Wesak, the observance of the birth, enlightenment and death of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, 2600 years ago.

If we follow the Buddhas path, this is the prime moment for transformation with this Full Moon. This is the path to enlightenment, to awakening. With the Sun in Taurus we are examining our lives with regard to matter, personal values, possessions and material goods, and security. But the Moon in Scorpio is pushing for understanding the mysteries of life, the complexities and the intangibles. The Moon seeks emotional transformation over comfort.

The Three Jewels, or the Three Treasures in Buddhism set the stage for transformation. The first is Buddha or the Teacher, the second is Dharma or the Teachings, and the third is Sangha or the community of practitioners. Whether you are Buddhist or not, these directives work with all belief systems or religions. First you find your teacher, one who opens the door to your inner self. This teacher can be anyone who lights your curiosity, even your higher self. The second task is to follow the teachings as they are presented to you, like a template to expand upon. The third task is to find your community, those who can share and teach each other.

At this time, as with all full Moons, we are arriving at the end of the cycle we set upon when the Moon was new in Scorpio, last November 1st. Under the double influence of the Sun and Moon in Scorpio, we were looking at how to become our own shamans, alchemists, and psychologists as we explored the innermost layers of our beings. We were encouraged to seek our own “becoming” through looking at the shadow side of our being. This was a time of letting go of all limitations in regards to Spirit. Now, with this Full Moon we see the outcome of those goals, and where we sit within our own inner self; freed or still captive.

Saturn at 28 degrees Pisces trines the Moon. While Saturn is still in this sign until May 24th, it is tying up its cycle with this positive aspect. Saturn is the strict teacher, but in Pisces its lessons are about trusting the unseen and letting go of fear. We are completing the lesson of learning how to set healthy boundaries while still being compassionate. Life is asking us to surrender control and go with the flow.

At this time, Uranus plays a role in our becoming. It is conjoined with the Sun at 26 degrees Taurus and opposite the Moon. Uranus is the planet of change, one that rattles our cage of self limitation. You are what you believe until Uranus points out where you have sold yourself short. This planet shows us all our individuality and how we can become free from control and inhibition. With the Moon we are dealing with emotions and in this sign, things that are normally hidden come out into the light to reveal what blocks progress. Allowing these energies to help us comb through the snarls and see what needs removing before we step into freedom is the goal.

As with the Buddha, we are all avatars in this world. We are here to find our uniqueness and thrive. We must go through dark and light times in order to learn. It isn’t punishment but directives to keep us on our path. So if you seek peace, surrender to the truth; about yourself, about others, about why we are here and what we are meant to learn.

It is all about love.

On April 27th at 12:31 PM PDT the Sun and Moon align at 7 degrees Taurus, 47 minutes. This is a welcome new beginning, after the transformational energies of Eclipse Season. Taurus is a stable, fixed sign that desires peace and fulfillment.

Taurus is the first Earth sign of the Solar Year. Earth signs are grounded, care about nature and love to beautify their surroundings as color, scent and vibration affect them tremendously. All fixed signs land in the second month of a season when the energies are anchored. The glyph for Taurus is the Bull, the Latin word for Bull. When loved and petted, a bull can be calmed and can be by your side. But if you disturb, block or challenge one, look out. Same goes for people born under this sign. They are a determined lot, persevering even when others would quit. Being ruled by Venus, the Goddess of love, beauty, fertility, values and success, Taureans tend to be artists, musicians, gardeners, and creators.

As the Sun and Moon lend us tranquility at this moment in time, we are showered with optimism and hope for our future. After the fire sign of Aries and the Eclipses, this fixed sign can be felt as a break, a time to relax and be lazy:) But there are a couple of curve balls happening at the same time. Both Mars (in Leo) and Pluto (in Aquarius) square the Sun and Moon, creating a T-Square. As Mars and Pluto oppose each other, the middle line of a T points to the Sun and Moon for direction on how to process these energies.

Generally speaking, fixed signs don’t like change, and these are no different. Stubbornness and determination come into play, and with Mars and Pluto in opposition, there can be fireworks! T Squares bring stress and anxiety that overflows and snaps back, forcing us to take action. While we may feel like holding on tight to what we have out of fear, this New Moon encourages us to get our finances in order and devise a new budget. There may be power struggles centered around survival instincts, self worth, and self-preservation. It’s forcing us to confront the pressure under the surface around money, and where we’ve grown too rigid or too reliant on comfort zones. Taurus wants peace, but Pluto and Mars want transformation and confrontation.

The best way to handle these energies is to first set your Earthly goals for the New Moon, centered around leaving the past behind and renewing your optimism. This sign of values asks us all, “what is really important in your life at this time?” The answer is not only survival, but a new appreciation of what we do have and how to make the most of it. Whether it’s setting a new course of employment, a different way of looking at finances, how to improve your appearance, or sharing love with others, it’s time for change. Mars and Pluto funnel their energies into this task, supplying the determination and energy to take the initiative and do something to improve your situation. Where the Goddess Venus is a passive planet, Mars and Pluto are active; together they bring us to our knees, praying for insight for what to do. That is what I suggest for us all now, to go within and ask our Soul for direction. No matter your financial situation, you have an opportunity to make yourself and your World more beautiful under this influence.

So a beautiful celebration is in order, with flowers, good food and good company. Share who you are and what you have with others now. Play music, get the paints out and create together, as we all love Springtime with its promises for the seeds to sprout, just like our thoughts taking root and bringing promises of personal growth.

On April 12th at 5:22 PM PDT the Moon is Full at 23 degrees Libra 20 minutes. The Sun is opposite the Moon at 23 degrees Aries 20 minutes. This Full Moon is part of the Eclipse Season, and peaks at this moment. The season began with a Total Lunar Eclipse on March 13th, followed by a Partial Solar Eclipse on March 29th. With every Full Moon we observe the culmination of the destinations we set for ourselves, and with this one, the lessons are highlighted.

When the Moon was New in Libra on October 2nd, 2024, there was a Solar Eclipse. The focus was on the individual, the soul, and its mission in this lifetime. When the Moon is in the sign of Libra, we are feeling an emotional balance or lack of it. This is the sign of justice, equality and one to one relationships. It is ruled by the planet Venus, ruling all things we value; love, money, the arts and beauty. When Eclipse Season began, the Aries/Libra axis was activated triggering us to look at our own sovereignty while in relationships with others. With this energy peaking it begs the question, are we in balance or are we people pleasing? Do we tell others what they want to hear, or are we speaking the truth from our hearts? This Full Moon drives us to finally be honest with ourselves and others in order to improve our lives. To not neglect our own well being in order to serve another.

On this occasion the Sun in Aries and the Moon in Libra are both squared by Mars at 27 degrees Cancer. This forms a “T-Square”, with Mars being the focal point and the driving force, pushing the individual towards action and resolution. This energy is direct, sometimes aggressive and combative. You might feel that you need to fight to get what you want and you may tend to have a "me-first" attitude that angers or irritates others. If your desires are frustrated you can become very irritable and bad tempered if you do not have enough vigorous physical activities or other outlets for your aggressive, feisty spirit. Emotionally, this T-Square makes us unusually  temperamental and impatient, tending to respond with a temper tantrum. If you need your cage rattled to get you to take action, here you go:)

With all of these challenging energies, we are blessed with harmonious aspects from Jupiter at 17 degrees Gemini. It sextiles the Sun and trines the Full Moon. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and growth, and while in Gemini it enlarges your social contacts through your immediate environment, and your ability to communicate, learn new subjects and follow new interests. When sextile the Sun, the influence is positive and optimistic, with a feeling like starting over with a clean slate. With the trine to the Moon, you are feeling easygoing, agreeable, and tolerant, willing to overlook others' mistakes, forget the past, and begin again on a positive note. Jupiter soothes the otherwise charged atmosphere of the Sun and Moon.

Each day can be a new chance to begin again, and these planets and luminaries are urging us to take the less traveled path. We can access the courage of the Sun in Aries, the fairness and neutrality of the Libra Moon, the nurturing of Mars in Cancer, and the abundance of information from Jupiter in Gemini. No longer sitting in judgment of ourselves, but picking up the torch to light the way to. The key is love and respect for ourself first as without us there is no we:)

As an aside, following the Full Moon things will begin to settle down if we take the high road. Now with Winter behind us we feel the Sun setting again, bringing us all more Vitamin D. Another highlight this month is the Lyrid Meteor Shower, happening in predawn hours from April 16-25, with it peaking on April 22nd. The “falling stars”, aka meteors, will be traveling from South to North at 15 to 20 happening per hour! So if you get up early, go outside with a blanket and a warm drink and wait for the show to begin!
