The Summer Solstice 2026

YAY! I love the beginning of Summer and the power and light it brings:) This year the Summer Solstice lands on June 21st at 1:24 AM PDT. This is when the Sun is stationed at 0 degrees Cancer 0 minutes, and each and every year we have different times and dates when this happens. The range of dates are from June 20-22.

Where we usually speak of the Moon in these articles, let’s talk about our Sun. In Astrology, the Moon rules the emotional cycles, the tides of the seas, Mother and the feminine archetype. The Sun is our Soul (Sol) and describes how we SHINE in this life. It is the male principle, our creator spirit. It dictates what we gravitate to and what we attract. It is how we define ourselves, our identities, our purpose.

The Sun rules our seasons depending on the tilt of our Earth. We are 6 months into our calendar year, and stepping over the threshold to the rest of our year. With our Sun in the sign of Cancer, a Cardinal Water sign, we are ushered into a time of nurturing, family functions, children home from school. The mood is celebratory, as we have passed through the challenges of the start of the year's weather and duties. Now with gardens flourishing, baby animals being spotted in nature, and caring for ourselves and others is at a peak. The Cardinal power leads to steering the activities we are part of with the grace and purpose of a Mother, while the Water element flows with a destination of peace. The flip side can be fear of losing control in this sign, where the motto is, “in order to do a job right we have to do it ourselves.” Don’t fall into this trap, loosen your grip and have faith in the process:)

On this occasion the Sun in Cancer has a square from the Moon in Virgo at 23 degrees. While the Sun is in emotional Cancer, the Moon in Virgo is analyzing, possibly at cross purposes with the Sun. Under this influence we can send out mixed messages so people don't always know how to respond to us or know what we really want, thus creating confusion or conflict in close relationships.

Also there is a square to the Sun from Neptune in Aries. The Sun in Cancer focuses on emotion, family, and creating safe, protective environments. It is sensitive and receptive. But Neptune in Aries strives for bold, pioneering action and spiritual or idealistic breakthroughs. You might feel torn between who you think you are (or want to be) and what your underlying emotions are actually telling you.

The challenge we have on this Summer Solstice is to listen to our higher self; to be directed to help when needed, but to remember to care for ourselves equally. To know we must be at the top of our game in order to live during these times of change and evolution. We are guided to enjoy the festivities of Summer while keeping our eyes on the targets we have set for ourselves.

So enjoy! Play like a child, walk barefoot in the grass, swim in the cool water…be at peace:)
