On August 30th at 6:35 PM PDT our second Full Moon of the month arrives. This is what the definition of a “Blue Moon” is; when we have two Full Moons in one month. It’s also a Super Full Moon, which means that it occurs when the Moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth. Super Full Moons represent an opportunity to release the past and let go of what’s holding us back from embracing new opportunities with renewed clarity. So this should be quite the event for all of us!
The Sun will be in the sign of Virgo, making this Full Moon in the sign of Pisces. Full Moons are always the opposite sign as the Sun, degree for degree. Let’s talk about when the Moon is in Pisces.
Pisces is a Mutable Water Sign, very different from Virgo. They are both Mutable, meaning the last month of a season; adaptable and showing signs of the season finishing and the one beginning. This Water Sign is the most sensitive of all, feeling everyone’s feelings and going in deep to understand them. Pisces is the fourth and final water sign of the Solar year, making it so very sensitive, it sometimes clouds the judgment. Pisces energy is so susceptible to blending with others; it can become undefined and lose itself. Being a Mutable Water sign can encourage flexible feelings, as in changing with their environment. They are easily affected by everyone and everything.
Pisces is ruled by the planet Neptune, and its energy is passive and feminine. Neptune presents the fork in the road between the low road and the high road. The low road is cloudy, confused, escaping reality. The high road brings spiritual wisdom, creativity and compassion. Seeing clearly can be difficult with this energy, especially with a Full Moon in this sign. We can anticipate a highly emotional time. The glyph for Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions, indicating the dual nature of Pisces energy, the lower and higher. Pisces are pulled in two directions, and constantly challenged with choosing the right path.
So let’s understand that this potential can bring us either a culmination of what was set in motion when the Moon was new in Pisces on February 20th of this year, or show us how far we’ve escaped responsibility with our hopes and dreams at that time. With the Sun and Moon in Pisces then, we were all in heightened awareness and hopeful for change. Our compassion for all that is was searching for answers on how to best live our lives and how to help each other. We may have set our sights on becoming more creative, seeing the artist in ourselves and wanting to explore our own divinity. But with this axis of Virgo Sun and Pisces Moon, we may have fallen short being highly critical of our own possibilities. Virgo is highly critical and Pisces doesn’t always see things as they really are. Where are you in the mix? Have you actualized what you wished for or taken the route of looking the other way? It’s always a challenge with these signs as they are both flexible to the point of finding it difficult to settle on one or another thing. But this year we have some influence from Saturn also in the sign of Pisces. Saturn opposes the Sun and conjoins the Full Moon. With the Sun, we can have feelings of personal inadequacy, inhibitions, and self-doubt. You’ll have a cautious, careful, realistic attitude toward life and be responsible and disciplined with regard to your obligations and duties. You’ll tend to work and struggle more than you need to, and to take yourself too seriously. With the Moon, you’ll feel serious and emotionally reserved, be cautious about letting others
get close to you and may possibly withdraw from people altogether. At times, even when you are with people, you may feel lonely or isolated. Learning to appreciate your own company and to find satisfying solitary activities is essential to your emotional well-being during this time.
I say take the high road. Lead with your super conscious mind, the part of us that dreams the dream of life with guidance onboard. We all have qualities in us that distinguish us from each other; talents, skills and beliefs. But if we just imagine what the possibilities can be and put our best foot forward we can direct ourselves to do what is right and kind for ourselves and others. Allow yourself to see yourself as a Divine Messenger here to raise the vibration of ourselves that will affect our world in the highest possible ways. Don’t judge, just do.
